Holidays

Plein Air Printmaking

This Plein Air experience of mobile printmaking will take you out into the wilds of West Cornwall. This printmaking Cornwall experience is suitable for beginners and specialists alike. During this time you will get to see the true diversity of the West Cornwall landscape.

With the use of the mobile workshop facilities we will be working directly in the countryside preparing, making and proofing images without leaving the chosen location. Two printing presses will be available enabling you to experiment with a number of Printmaking processes, such as engraving and drypoint, etching, woodblock and monoprinting techniques.

Tuition is made available on an individual basis to further encourage your preferred approach. The beauty of this experience allows people to work at their own pace. Most people will return home with the experience of 3 different printmaking processes, multiple proofs showing the process, a final finished proof and sometimes a part edition ready for sale in their next show.

The cost of this Holiday/Course/Workshop is £75 per person per day or £45 for a half day. Current dates for courses in 2020 are listed below. We always aim to encourage printmaking and creativity, so feel free to suggest other dates in addition, and we will accommodate you if we can! Contact Oliver at [email protected] to enquire.

Full day workshops = £75 per person
Half day workshops = £45 per person
Back to back half day workshops =£75

Taking the normal Plein Air Printmaking approach, we will be making final decisions on choice of location for the day making the most of prevailing weather and atmospheric conditions on either coast or inland. A suggested structure of the five days will be discussed on arrival allowing all participants to register their interest in their preferred locations.

Oliver’s studio home provides lots of additional places to relax in and places to print make. Using his studio facilities at your own pace, in the many individual locations around his home and gardens. In summer months we often eat out on the terrace or decking areas taking in the views across the bay.

There are a number of bookable rooms at Oliver’s base in Marazion, the beach is just minutes away. So remember to bring your swimming costume!

Creative Identity

Discover your Creative Identity in Cornwall

For many, a lack of confidence in drawing skills and forgotten imaginations can sometimes keep us from exploring one of our core components – Creativity! Others just can’t decide what bit of their inherent skills they want to hone and develop first. Either way; some structured workshops dealing with image creation and organisation can quickly help to push out the old, and usher in some exciting new strands of vision and identity.

Remembering that many great success ideas start on a scrap of paper; we believe that this workshop offers some essential keys to ones unique and creative identity.

Since 1995 Oliver has been offering arts portfolio training to students and artist/designers internationally. With groups of approximately 8 – 10 guests, we focus on enabling each member on an individual basis. This approach encourages a relaxed but content-rich experience.

With over twenty years of experience teaching on many undergraduate and postgraduate courses, Oliver has enjoyed a breadth of experience working with students preparing for a career in the following areas: visual arts, contemporary crafts, fashion, product and sustainable design, performance, creative writing, photography and film. He works alongside professionals in architecture and garden design amongst others in the creative industry.

Although very different from one another, all of these examples of specialist portfolios thrive, because of creative identity. Oliver believes that we are all born to be creative in one-way or another. In fact, he would say that it’s a built-in part of our DNA to create. Creativity isn’t just the domain of the ‘artist’; one can be creative in business and another in their thinking style. Whether we know it or not we are all making creative decisions in pretty much all walks of life. Therefore it’s important that we know the specifics of our creative identity, to get the most out of our unique makeup.

These Creative Identity courses are therefore suitable for anyone, wanting to look a bit closer at what makes them tick, whilst discovering skills they perhaps never knew they had. We know there may be some who identify with the phrase; ‘I haven’t got a creative bone in my body”, but we love proving that statement wrong, as we believe this course could help to enhance the way you live your life, to live it more fully.

For some, it’s about revisiting memories of creative activity to see how it might enhance this current bit of their life’s journey. For others it might be that they feel the equivalent to “writer’s or artist’s block” and – just plain and simple – would benefit from a better awareness of their creative identity and how to engage it.

Art Holidays Abroad

Sketchbook Holidays has been running for many years now. The holidays were Oliver’s answer to providing Printmaking and drawing opportunities to others yet still satisfying Oliver’s and like-minded individuals need to explore.

Sketchbook Holidays began in the early years when Oliver was running his Printmaking Studio in Cornwall. When Oliver closed the studio he pursued the ideas of these holidays as a way to engage others, teach Printmaking and still be able to have the freedom to produce his own artwork.

Sketchbooking HolidaysOliver’s friendly personality, broad skills and one-to-one attention ensure a unique experience. Oliver’s holidays are ideal for making new friendships, exploring and exchanging creative ideas and enjoying some of the most beautiful places in the world. These tailor made holidays are an ideal opportunity to be both relaxed, explore the landscape whilst filling a sketchbook diary, or as the basis for a themed arts project.

It can be hard to develop the use of a sketchbook past sporadic or isolated images and thoughts captured in a spontaneous moment, so the Sketchbook holiday with its loose structure aids and stimulates a motivated response to a regularly changing new and exciting environment. It’s up to you how you use the time whether your interest is in the sun, your sketchbook, or both. Such is the nature of the holiday you can opt for peace and quiet or integration within a friendly group.

Venice, the Alps, Turkey and South Africa.
